Journal Entry: The Future of AI in My Classroom

 

As an English teacher with two years of experience teaching A1+ to B1 learners, I see Artificial Intelligence (AI) as both a helpful tool and a challenge. After reading the 2024 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report, I realize that AI is not a distant concept. It is already shaping how we teach and learn.

In the short term, AI tools can help me personalize learning. My students have different needs and learning speeds. AI-powered apps could give instant, level-based feedback, saving me time on corrections and letting me focus on supporting creativity, confidence, and communication.



However, I do not believe AI can replace the teacher. Many lower-level students need empathy, motivation, and human connection. These are things AI cannot provide. Especially in language learning, the teacher’s role goes far beyond instruction.

Looking ahead, I believe AI literacy will become essential. I will not only teach English but also help students use tools like ChatGPT ethically. They need to learn how to check information, avoid plagiarism, and think critically about digital content.

My goal is to create a classroom where AI supports learning without replacing the human element. With thoughtful use, AI can enhance learning outcomes while keeping the heart of education rooted in personal growth and connection.
