Week 2_The ABCD Learning Objectives Framework and Effective Web Searching

In week 2, I explored ABCD Learning Objectives Framework and Effective Web Searching.

First of all, in terms of ABCD Learning Objectives Framework, it helps me a lot in writing down effective learning objectives for my class. For instance, in the past, a typical learning objective for my class might have been stated as "By the end of the lesson, students will have been able to talk about their career choices." However, thanks to the ABCD Learning Objectives Framework, it has provided me with a valuable tool for refining and enhancing my objectives.

By incorporating the elements of Audience, Behavior, Condition, and Degree, I have gained a more holistic understanding of how to design instruction that is both purposeful and effective. For example, revisiting the aforementioned learning objective, it has transformed into a more precise statement: "Given the topic, suggested ideas, the speaking sample, and some useful expressions, the tenth-grade English students will be able to confidently discuss their career choices with over 70% accuracy and 80% fluency." This revised objective not only specifies the target audience (tenth-grade English students) but also outlines the expected behavior (discussing career choices), the condition under which the behavior will occur (given the topic, suggested ideas, the speaking sample, and some useful expressions), and the degree to which the behavior should be achieved (70% accuracy and 80% fluency). In the future, I will utilize the ABCD learning objectives framework as well as verbs in the Bloom Taxonomy Materials_Module2 for guiding instruction and enhancing the quality of my teaching.

Furthermore, with regards to Effective Web Searching, after reviewing my classmates' insights, I have compiled a list of recommendations and experiences with different search engines and portals including SlideShare, Busy Teacher, YouTube, Scribd, Edutopia,Wordwall, Google Scholar, Twinkl, ect.

Aligning with my needs for my academic searches and for information for my class, after reading the recommendations of my classmates, I tried some interesting search engines including Scribd and live worksheet. I feel that to search documents Scribd is a great search engine, which stores a multitude of useful documents and electronic books. Addionally, I realize that live worksheet caters to students of all levels. It offers a diverse range of exercises that cover not only vocabulary but also grammar. I have utilized it to assign online homework for students to reinforce the grammatical concepts taught in class and my students were excited. Due to time constraints, I was not able to test out all of the suggested search engines. However, I plan to revisit them in the future and explore additional options to discover more useful search engines.
