Week 4 _Skill-building Websites for Reading/Writing Skills and Technology-enhanced Lesson Plan

In this module, I had the opportunity to learn about incorporating Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) into writing and reading activities, and to develop a technology-enhanced lesson plan.

From my experience, ESL Printables and Breaking News English are the most suitable websites for my students. Regarding the former, it is a useful resource for English teachers as it provides a wealth of free materials for teaching reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. The materials on this website include activities, games, worksheets, and lesson plans, which are shared by other teachers, and you can see them on the forum. ESL Printables can also be beneficial for students as they can do exercises assigned by their teachers from the website. Overall, this is a great tool for teachers to search for and create a variety of activities for their students. The second website is Breaking News English. I share the same opinion as my classmate that in the pre-reading activities, learners can do warm-up tasks and guess the answers before reading the text. Additionally, the website also offers grammar exercises, vocabulary activities, and online activities to reinforce knowledge after reading. Finally, the website offers reading passages structured at various levels, suitable for different proficiency levels from beginner to advanced.

After reading my peers' suggestions, I added some more websites to my social bookmarking page. One of the effective webites is Writing | LearnEnglish (britishcouncil.org). This website caters to learners ranging from A1 to C1 levels and is organized by various topics. Each topic includes sections such as preparation, reading text, tips, tasks, and discussion. The website provides a well-structured and logical learning interface. Additionally, it features a user-friendly interface, allowing learners to study and test themselves with answer keys.

The module also provided me with an opportunity to develop a technology-enhanced lesson plan. I realized the importance of having plans B and C if plan A does not work due to technological difficulties. For example, when incorporating Quizizz to host an interactive game, my classmates suggested that if my students cannot access the Internet, use Quizizz Paper mode or, print a regular quiz on paper, which are really practical. This is because as teacher, we can not always ensure that our lesson will go as smooth as planned.
