Week 1_Creating an Academic Blog

My very first lesson in the "Internet in Language Teaching" course is "Creating an academic blog" 💓

One major takeaway from this module is the importance of simplifying information. 🚀

At first, I think traditional academic blog can be hard for my students to get into because it is usually stuck in academic papers and conferences. However, after engaging in this module, I learned to break down those barriers. I used pictures, charts, and short videos to help explain things, making complex ideas simpler.

One interesting thing I grasp after this module is using a blog for teaching English offers several advantages over platforms like TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook. The key benefit is that blogs primarily rely on written content, which is beneficial for language learners. Reading blog posts helps students improve vocabulary, comprehension, and overall language skills. It encourages a more focused and thoughtful engagement with the language compared to the often rapid and visually distracting nature of videos on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Also, blogs allow for the creation of well-organized and structured content. Teachers can present lessons in a logical order, making it easier for learners to follow a curriculum or a learning path. This structured approach might be challenging to achieve on platforms like TikTok or Facebook, where content is often short-lived and fragmented.

Thank you for reading!
